Little Shushwap rocks!

Well, I had the best of times this weekend! Wasn't that fun? I am tired but not too stiff or sore, thanks to Sue's good stretching tips!
Many thanks to the great Quaaott Resort staff especially the providers of the delicious food. I hope someone has a good picture of the chef.
I didn't take a camera, so I'm relying on all of you to post great pictures.
Chuck (aka Charlotte) was awesome, if a bit devious in getting us to challenge ourselves.
Just so we don't forget: Day one Friday, set off at 0715 hrs from the Tim Horton's in Summerland. The drive that we took relived our route of last year along the beautiful Salmon river valley. After unloading the bikes at Quaaott, we set off after Chuck, crossed Hwy 1 and began the first hill climb of the day, blithely following, without knowing what Chuck had in store for us. Wendy brought up the rear claiming innocence of what lay ahead. 7.5 km later we reached the plateau and then began the rolling hills and vales of Skimikin Rd. The red shirts spread out with the fleet echelon way ahead of us slow pokes in the rear. Mutiny almost struck when it seemed like we would never get any lunch and we passed yet another idyllic lake. Finally rest beside a bubbling brook in sunshine and pleasant meadows. The next few kilometers took us to the descent to the Granite Creek winery: to savour delightful wines in the shady garden. More downhill to the Recline Ridge winery. Then wending our way across country on the Tappen Valley road beside the railway with views of the Shuswap valley, via Sorrento and back to Little Shuswap lake. 60+kms all told with headwinds at the end.
Day two: Saturday, again sunny, but not too hot, setting off after a great breakfast for the single track valley trails. Group ride on 4 wheel drive roadway in the second growth forest on the valley floor, then the division between the single trackers and the main liners. I enjoyed the challenge of the single track, but I'm sure Chuck had us doing big circles and I missed seeing the Adams river, but not the mud and bruises that came for the afternoon adventurers. Those of us into the relaxation mode enjoyed the peaceful afternoon paddle by canoe shared with the loons.
Someone else can detail the route to Adams Lake and we want more detail of the Adams River mud run.
Night festivities with baron of beef followed by camp fire frolics.
Day three: Rain at breakfast diverted plans from riding to hiking to the Flume falls. A change of pace but more hills! The moss, rainforest and waterfalls are such a contrast to our dry valleys. Then that excellent brunch with personal pan omelettes, waffles etc. Followed by the "Chuck Unlimited" demo- skyborn and aerodynamic-must have felt good after the "light" lunch.
OWOW did it again!
Thanks Deb and Sheila for putting a great trip together!
Keep on blogging everyone,
Kathy G.
